Last May, I attended the European Dog Show in Paris — or, to be more accurate, just outside the city. I was doing work for a pet food client and they had kindly invited people from my agency to check it out.

So when Saturday came along, I got on an RER (or ‘Regional Express Network’) train and headed towards the Parc des Expositions de Villepinte. The expo centre was one train stop before Paris-Charles de Gaulle airport, which meant that in theory, it was the closest place that new arrivals to Paris could visit.

It was funny to think that tourists from abroad could hypothetically get on a train and head straight to the venue. Of all the sites to visit, imagine making the European Dog Show your #1 priority.

When I arrived at the Parc, I got out and looked for the expo entrance, but it wasn’t immediately obvious where it was. I walked down a tunnel and into an open area where the show was meant to be…
