Thanks for your comment. I’m not familiar with deadmalls.com -- will look it up! I enjoyed your article about the mall. It definitely seems like e-commerce is wreaking havoc on physical stores. But I don’t think malls will go away completely. The ones in Paris seem to be thriving. It seems that the ones in more rural areas are struggling though. I also found your observation about Walter Benjamin interesting. I’ve visited some of the arcades that he wrote about. What I find interesting is that while today’s malls are often seen as culturally bland, the arcades are seen as cultural relics — and yet they were pretty much the malls of their era. The arcades actually seem pretty fashionable now - they’ve got that retro chic that only 100 years can provide. Do you know the YouTube channel Solar Sands? He did a great video about liminal spaces and the vibe they give off. The mall you visited might have felt something like that
