A liminal space wasn’t a term I had in mind when I wrote this piece but it does seem to fit pretty well. I’d also argue that it’s not just people who live outside their home countries who occupy such a space, but also people who haven’t moved away whilst consuming content made about other places - cos exposure to some book or movie or tv series is often what inspires people to go abroad in the first place
